Marketo Dynamic Content Testing

How to test Dynamic Content?

Create a list

Create a static list named “Email Preview Testing”. Load a few test records into that list. These test records should have the specific attributes you want to test. For example: Language – where the field “Language” is also the field that determines the association to the Segmentation “Language”.

Use Email Addresses you can receive. Use the “plus-addressing” feature of gmail like this:

michael.florin+german@gmail.com
michael.florin+english@gmail.com
michael.florin+spanish@gmail.com

If you own the address michael.florin@gmail.com you will receive these emails. (Unfortunately, I don’t own it).

A simple list could look like this:

How to use this list

Now you can do two things:

Preview an email by using “Preview by List”. Use the arrows to scroll through the list:

Send your test email to the list. You’ll receive the segmented versions for each list member. Clicking on links sends you to the segmented landing page as well.

Landing Pages

Clicking through from an email link that carries the mkt_tok parameter will also segment the landing page. So in this specific case the parameter

?Language=Spanish

enforces the display of the segmented page elements in Spanish.
